This outstanding event, which is fun for the whole family, will include the Fair Kick-Off Barbecue on August 4, 2012. During the Monterey National Horse Show, there will be many horse show events, jackpot roping, barrel racing and Ranch National Team Sorting. In addition, there will be the crowning of the Miss Monterey National Horse Show on Saturday evening, August 4th at the Monterey National Horse Show. Used with permission of the Jo Mora Trust, the poster artwork for the Monterey National Horse Show is by Jo Mora from his beautifully illustrated book that describes the world of the American Cowboy, Saddle Dust and Trail Leather. The poster uses the eye-catching black and white pen and ink Western-themed image on the dedication page depicts Mora’s son, Joey, sitting astride his horse named "Huerita", with the Mora family dogs on the ground, "Smoke" on the left and "Zack" on the right. More details and the event schedule will be posted soon on the website, www.montereycountyfair.com. For more information, or to become a Sponsor, call (831) 372-5863.
Ranch Sorting is a western-style equestrian sport that evolved from ranch work of separating cattle into pens for branding, doctoring, or transport. It is an event that pits a team of two riders on horseback against the clock. Teamwork is the key with both riders working in harmony to cut out the correct cattle and drive them to the pen while keeping the wrong numbered cattle back. There are several variations of ranch sorting with one, two or three riders on the team, but all require sorting the cattle from one pen to the other in the correct order.
The Monterey County Fairgrounds is a premiere event center set on 22 oak-studded acres with ample parking. It is home of the annual award-winning Monterey County Fair, host to many major and private events on the Central Coast, and the site of the Monterey Bay Race Place, a Satellite Wagering Facility. The Monterey County Fair is the 7th District Agricultural Association of the State of California. The 2012 Monterey County Fair, which will be "Very Berry Extraordinary!" will be held August 29-September 3, 2012.
